Unangan/Unangas Program

At the most recent Aleut Corporation meeting, it was announced that 29 percent of Unangan/Unangas live in the Pacific Northwest, more than the population that lives on the Aleutian islands and in Anchorage. As such, a new, priority effort of the organization is to create Unangan/Unangas cultural programming specifically to engage that population here in the PNW. In 2024 we launched a bi weekly song, language and dance night, on the 1st and 3rd wednesday of every month. Our staff, who have received training from Unangan/Unangas language instructors in Alaska, teach basic introductory Unangum Tunuu. In 2025 our staff will be remodeling the program, and potentially offering week long language and culture camps. Stay tuned for more information to get involved. This program is open to people who identify as Unangan/Unangas.
