The Common Acre will launch a Program2023 to begin gardening at Estelita's Library in the Central District. This program will utilize a cohort model, inviting 15 Black, Indigenous and People of color in Seattle a living classroom. Applications for this cohort will open the beginning of 2023, and the community garden will launch shortly after. Please stay tuned.
Cohort members will learn how to grow culturally relevant foods, transforming the space around Estelita’s library into a community garden. Additionally, The Common Acre will invite 3 to 4 community BIPOC farmers, community organizers, and food justice workers to speak with the cohort about the intersections of building a racially just food system and climate justice. At the end of the program, the cohort will strengthen their cross-sector relationships and skills to build community power and advance individual, racial, and climate justice-related goals in line with the City’s OneSeattle Plan.
