The word culture comes from the Latin "to till," and we love its roots, so to speak, in agriculture (which means "to till the field"). By Shakespeare's time a newer meaning — cultivation of the mind — had been established, and eventually "culture" encompasses our shared activities as a society.
For The Common Acre, this means performances, art exhibits, lectures, festivals. It means community organizing projects such as Bee City Seattle. Ultimately it means growing a more diverse, healthy, vibrant and lasting community.
What a wonderful harvest we gather together!
